The Microsoft Number Porting Team is no longer able to setup phone number forwarding for customers in Skype for Business Online Phone System. Numbers that have been forwarded by the Porting team will be removed in the next few weeks. Customers who have forwarded numbers are being sent an email like the following:
As detailed in the email, they suggest two (2) options for forwarding phone numbers in Phone System:
- Create a Skype for Business Online Phone System Auto Attendant and set it up to redirect calls to another Phone System enabled user, Phone System Auto Attendant or Phone System Call Queue. You cannot forward a number to a phone number that is not homed in the client’s Phone System tenant. The number being forwarded using this method must be setup as a “Service Account”.
- Create a “dummy” Active Directory or Azure Active Directory account. Assign an Office 365 license that supports Skype for Business Online Phone System. The account must have a Calling Plan and been assigned a “Subscriber” phone number. Sign on as that user and forward the number. This is the only option for forwarding to external phone numbers.
