Polycom CX Lync Phone Edition (LPE) and Office 365 TLS Support

Service Impacting Changes to CX500, CX600, and CX3000 devices in Office 365

Microsoft published an actionable message (MC128929) in the Office 365 Message Center on February 10, 2018 informing tenants of the impending deprecation of Transport Layer Security (TLS) versions 1.0 & 1.1. Office 365 will only support TLS 1.2 (or later versions) beginning October 31, 2018

This message was a follow-up to a previously published warning in December of 2017 that support for TLS 1.0 & 1.1 would be discontinued beginning March 1, 2018 but due to feedback the deadline was extended.

What does this mean for you? As with all actionable messages in Office 365, you must plan for the change and assess how this change will impact your organizations use of Office 365 services. Microsoft has provided references and resources on how to prepare for the change in this article Preparing for the mandatory use of TLS 1.2 in Office 365

Last week our organization met with representatives from Polycom and we were reminded that the Polycom CX line of phones that use Microsoft Lync Phone Edition (technically any device using LPE) will not be supported for use with Skype for Business Online after October 31, 2018. This includes the CX500, CX600, and CX3000 devices.

If your organization still relies on any of these devices, please contact Enabling Technologies to assist you in planning for this change.
